Early Fenton French Opalescent Hobnail clear and white bowl with a ruffled or crimped rim. The bowl has nice orange fire. This does not show in the pictures.
Opalescent glass was made by glass manufactures in the late 19th century, early 20th century. It started with French glass makers taking old stained glass and reheating and chemically treating it to make the opalescent effect. It was an attempt to use glass making in an artistic or painterly manner. Fenton made opalescent glass in many colors until about 1915 when production ceased due to the hazardous chemicals used to make it.
The bowl is in mint condition. It is not marked. It does have a straw mark or manufacturing flaw in the bottom, as shown in the photos. There are no other flaws that I can detect. This little bowl measures 6 x 6 x 1.
