This vintage Sarah Coventry figural brooch or pin is entitled "Celestial Spray", signed © Sarah Cov is from the late 1960's. It is goldplated with a heavily textured design of a fireworks bloom or burst. Some see it as a flower. Inside the center of the fireworks bloom are rhinestones set on short stems in red, blue, purple and green. The rhinestone setting actually moves just a little if touched.
History: Sarah Coventry received it's name form Charles H. Stuart, founder of Emmons Home Fashion and was named after his granddaughter. Sarah Coventry was sold by way of home parties from 1949 until the 1980's. The brand was sold to Lifestyle Brands in 1987. Home parties were tried again in 1994; but were not very successful. In 2002, Home Shopping Network was the exclusive seller of the brand. In 2003, Sarah Coventry began selling its line through home parties again and was still doing so as of 2004.
The marks by date first used are Coventry (1949), Sarah Coventry (1949-50), SC (1950), Sarah (1951), Sarah Cov. (1960), thus this brooch is dated from the 1960's.
The pin is in good condition. Some of the plating is worn away on the stem. It has a patina, as it is not bright except in places. It could probably be brightened up with a good polish; but I will leave that up to the buyer. The brooch measures approximately 2 3/4" x 2 1/3".
